Air Cargo News’ Off the Record has reported an odd new marketing craze in the air cargo industry: Lego kits.

The kits for model freighter aircraft have been spotted at exhibition stands at the Multimodal event in Birmingham, UK, where they were used as promotional items. For example, Heathrow Airport was giving away Lego cross sections of a plane’s bellyhold to advertise cargo capacity in their passenger aircraft, while Russian airline Volga-Dnepr had a Lego model of their AN 124-100 freighter up for grabs in a prize draw.

Multimodal is a business and networking event that encompasses freight transport, logistics and supply chain management. The Lego kits have reportedly gone down well—evidence at least that these exhibitors know their target audience.
