Air freight traffic at Dubai World Central (DWC) airport rose 15.9% from January through to September. This works out as over 662,000 tonnes, up from last year’s 571,000 tonnes over the same period.

This is despite a dip in the third quarter. The figures for Q3 2015 were down 15.6% from the same quarter in 2014, handling approximately 219,100 tonnes of freight, versus roughly 259,600 last year. Year-on-year cargo volumes have nevertheless increased.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, attributes some of the airport’s growth to flydubai's recent operations there, as well as the permanent relocation of pure cargo operators from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to DWC earlier in the year.
