DPD has now officially launched its standard Saturday delivery service throughout various cities and areas within Germany. The parcel delivery company is anticipating doubling its business to consumer delivery market share over the forthcoming years in providing delivery opportunity on Saturdays at no extra premium cost.

The new service is now available in cities including Hamburg, Bremen, Essen, Dortmund and Nuremberg, in addition to rural areas Saxony-Anhalt, Franconia and Saarland. The service is due to be introduced to more areas of Germany by May 2015.

DPD Germany’s Chief Executive, Boris Winklemann, has said: “Regular Saturday delivery is an important requirement to achieve our growth targets in the B2C market. Saturday delivery is actively requested by customers and parcel recipients, and has proven itself very well in practice: our carriers can reach people on Saturday who are aware from home Mondays to Fridays.”

Previous to this new service, DPD delivered Monday to Friday with Saturdays being only available upon request via an express service. The new Saturday service will see the company delivering to private customers

“I’m getting more and more pleased with how smoothly the introduction of Saturday delivery dates is going, and in many places it is already part of everyday life,” Winklemann added.

Michael Knaupe, DPD Director of B2C products and services, also added: “This is another step in our strategy in making package delivery easier and more flexible.”
