How to identify if your goods are hazardous...

The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) is an international system of labelling for hazardous goods. It is used to identify physical hazards, health hazards and environmental hazards using a number of simple pictograms.

Many hazardous chemicals are particularly dangerous when travelling by air due to the high pressure conditions. Most hazardous items are therefore prohibited by carriers. You will need to check your items for GHS labels before attempting to ship them.

Any items containing any of the following icons must be removed from your shipment:

  • Explosive hazard (symbol: exploding bomb) Explosive materials
  • Flammable hazard (symbol: flame) Flammable solids, liquids, gases and aerosols
  • Oxidising hazard (symbol: flame over circle) Oxidising solids, liquids and gases
  • Compressed Gas (symbol: Gas cylinder) Compressed, liquified and dissolved gases
  • Corrosive hazard (symbol: Corrosion) Corrosive substances
  • Toxic/Acute toxicity (symbol: Skull and crossbones) Toxic materials
  • Health hazard/hazardous to the ozone layer (symbol: Exclamation mark) Harmful materials, including irritants and mildly toxic materials
  • Serious health hazard (symbol: health hazard) Health hazards, including carcinogenic materials
  • Hazardous to the environment (symbol: Dead tree and fish) Environmental hazards
Please note: If you are re-using second-hand packaging, please do not use any packaging with hazard labels, including UN numbers. Your consignment may be stopped and held even if you attempt to cover up the old labels.

Second-Hand Electronic Goods

If you are sending second-hand electronic goods, please first check with the relevant customs authority whether you also need to include a certificate of compliance to prove safety. This is the responsibility of the shipper.

Your Responsibility

It is your responsibility, as the sender, to ensure the contents of your consignments are acceptable and meet all policy and safety requirements. It is important to remember that you are the only person who knows what is inside of your shipment. By taking your parcel, neither Transglobal Express nor the courier acknowledges that the contents are acceptable.
